AOL Browser

AOL Browser (or AOL Explorer) is a web browser by America Online. In 2005, AOL launched the AOL Explorer 1.X for free download and as an optional download with AIM version 5.9. The AOL Explorer supports tabbed browsing, but also was the first browser to use thumbnail images of webpages on their tooltips in the browser s history, favorites, and open tabs. It also had a feature called Power Browsing, which allowed users to customize the look of the current page in useful (and fun) ways: for example, you could make the page High Contrast or you could blur the entire page with a menu item that was called I Need Glasses.

The AOL browser is based on Microsoft Internet Explorer, largely due to the fact that MSIE was the overwhelmingly dominant consumer browser, and AOL targetted mass market consumers with this browser. Note: After experimenting with Mozilla technology in 2002, AOL signed a seven-year contract with Microsoft to use Internet Explorer code in 2003.
