Answers Corporation

Founded in 1999 by Bob Rosenschein, Answers Corporation (NASDAQ: ANSW) (previously GuruNet Corporation) develops and markets Answers.com, which provides quick, integrated reference answers through its site and software, instead of just search engine links.

Standard search engines take a word or phrase and return a long list of links to other Web pages - drawn from the vast, unstructured Internet - that contain the search term. These results are often overwhelming, inaccurate, or even inappropriate.

In contrast, Answers.com delivers snapshot, multi-faceted definitions and explanations from credible, attributable reference sources on over one million topics in their database. Their editors take content from over 100 encyclopedias, dictionaries, glossaries and atlases, chosen for breadth and quality. Their 1-Click Answers [http://www.answers.com/main/product_info.jsp] software allows the Windows or Mac OS X user to click on any word or phrase, in any document on the screen, for quick access.

In January 2005, Answers (then still GuruNet) responded to the evolving market of online search and launched Answers.com. Advances in the realm of targeted advertising allowed the company to move away from a subscription framework, to instead offer the same reference resources without a subscription, relying on an ad-based revenue model.

It is used by Google s definition link and maintains partnerships with A9, Opera, Accoona, IceRocket, and others.
