Arfenhouse |
Arfenhouse is a series of Macromedia Flash animations and Computer role-playing games, created by Paul Netto (Misteroo), and developed by Disaster Labs. All are intentionally poorly produced. The graphics are rudimentary and the plot is incoherent to an extreme degree. As such, the series can be passed on as comedy and has developed a fanbase within the Newgrounds and deviantART communities.
The Arfenhouse series originated as a mockery of the many Newbie games being created in the OHRRPGCE community, as well as the flash movies which appear on Newgrounds. Created in 20 minutes, the first game was so popular that it was followed by three more. The third and fourth games in the series, unlike the first two, are full and lengthy games, and are far better known. The flash movies are based off the original role-playing games, the third in particular.
The flash movies have a visual style somewhat similar to that of Animutation. The games have no style whatsoever. All characters, save exile-from-better-constructed-universe Joe, speak in highly muddled English language, often like Hacker (many people usually confuse leet with hacker, but leet is actually replacing letters with numbers, this is sometimes contained but Arfenhouse only contains purposeful typos which are considered to be hacker) and often with abundant profanity. The dialog has been called Arfenspeak by its producers and fanbase.
Arfenhouse supposedly revolves around the adventures of Housemaster, the man with a slice of bread for a head, as he defends the one room mansion of the Arfenhouse. What actually happens seldom bears any resemblance.

Basically, this game is about Housemaster, the heroic slice of bread that guards the large one-room mansion Arfenhouse for absolutely no reason at all against evil invaders that try to take his Arfenhouse away...also for no apparent reason. In this story, his long-time rival Evil Kitty breaks into Arfenhouse and takes control of it, unleashing a swarm of malevolent frogs, turnips and birds everywhere. Housemaster must defeat Evil Kitty and regain his Arfenhouse. : From the original Disaster Labs game description An exercise in minimalism. The player takes on the role of the Housemaster, a garishly-dressed character whose head is a slice of bread, as he travels from one end of the Arfenhouse -- simply a vast, empty space -- to the other; despite having different names, all enemies except the Evil Kitty Boss (video games) are completely identical. Housemaster also has a relatively small number of moves, and the animations for each appear to be squiggle lines. It ends with a message from the creator, as a break from the previously near-gibberish in the rest of the text, saying, No, I m not really that bad.
The game has been remade as a flash game, available on the Disaster Labs Website.
== ARFENHOUSE!!!1 TOO!!! (Arfenhouse 2) ==
The game takes place exactly five minutes after the events of ARFENHOUSE!!!1. Housemaster, annoyed by Evil Kitty s invasion, seeks revenge. Bringing his pet Piakchu (a misspelling of Pikachu) with him, Housemaster storms Evil Kitty s palace and eventually meets Joseph Williams (Joe). Having no clue why he has been thrown out of his original game, he decides the best way to return to it is by joining forces with Housemaster in hopes of completing the game. The task becomes more difficult with Evil Kitty employing reinforcements in the form of Old Mahn and Dog.
While not as minimalist as the first Arfenhouse, it s still fairly simplistic. Indeed, the only ways it is more complex than the first game is in that it has two more playable characters, two more bosses, more than one map and a smattering of other enemies and abilities.
== ARFENHOUSE!!!1 3!!!!!!! (Arfenhouse 3) ==
The third sequel to Arfenhouse takes place the day after the events of the two previous games. As a parody of Final Fantasy IV, A new antagonist named Billy is introduced. Housemaster must join forces with Evil Kitty and Dog to defeat Billy by kicking him in the groin, sending him into a thousand year sleep. While all this is occurring, a comet appears in the sky, threatening to destroy all life on the planet.
== ARFENHOUSE! FOR!! (Arfenhouse 4) ==
A year after the events in Arfenhouse 3, a new threat faces the Housefighters: Billy s dad, out for revenge against what happened to his son. Moreover, Housemaster can t find his pants. These problems lead Housemaster and the gang out of their backyard and into the world, and what the story evolves into is something that nobody could ever conceive, thankfully. : From Disaster Labs game description

May/June 2004.
== Arfenhouse: Teh Movie ==
The first Movie of Housemaster saw voice overs for the whole cast, with subtitles in Hacker for all! What little plot there was revolved around Housemaster going to the moon. There is a hidden ending, in which the producers of the movie share quotes and ideas.
== Arfenhouse: Teh Movie Too ==
Billy returns from the groin kick void to seek his revenge. This is followed by a collection of random scenes, including a commercial for a game called Woogy Pinball, a fantastic game using Arfenhouse s marketing ploy , and the cast playing a game of StarCraft, with a base consisting of corporate logos.
== AHTM3: Kill Billy ==
Released before the release of Kill Bill vol 2, the trailer contains 2% actual footage from AHTM3 (as claimed by the trailer itself).
The movie is simply a parody of Kill Bill. Housemaster takes the place of The Bride , and uses a Hello Kitty Vibrator as a sword, all while Battle without Honor or Humanity from Kill Bill plays in the background.
== Arfenhouse : Teh Movie 3! ==
The third part and conclusion of the trilogy , originally due in May/June 2004, was said to be cancelled on April 1st 2004. This turned out to be an April Fool s Day, but the entire project was scrapped and is now being redone. Rumors have arisen that the release of the first Arfenhouse: The Movie Tree will follow after the Second edition is completed. On April 1st, 2005, Disaster Labs released the Third Movie as an April Fools Joke. It contained two lines of dialog between Housemaster and Billy, followed by Housemaster killing Billy. The credit roll contained several hundred names Misteroo found in a phonebook. Misteroo later submitted the Flash to the website Newgrounds , looking for hilarious reviews from those who didn t understand the joke. The end result was somewhat worth it.
== Arfenhouse the Movie 4 ==
According to Misteroo s deviantART journal, a fourth Arfenhouse movie continues to be in production, following its third production attempt.
