Bartcop is the pseudonym of Terry Coppage (born September, 1953), a blogger and internet radio host from Tulsa, Oklahoma who is left of political center. He is a liberal Democratic Party (United States), and is known for his intense and often scathing commentary and fierce humor, criticizing George W. Bush and other Republicans, as well as other conservatives. Bartcop is a critic of the current Democratic leadership for not speaking out against the 2003 invasion of Iraq and for what he calls backstabbing Bill Clinton, but he often rails against Nader voters and anti-NAFTA protestors.
A feature of the page is to display angry He also likes to end each issue with an image of Shirley Manson from the band Garbage (band). Bartcop.com is the masthead for several websites. Bartcop has launched a radio show, available to financial supporters of Bartcop.com, and many of the site s readers frequent the #bartcop IRC chat room. In the U.S. Democratic Party presidential nomination, 2004, he gave some support to Dennis Kucinich and Howard Dean before finally endorsing Wesley Clark, both because of his military credentials and his closeness to Clinton. Immediately after Clark s departure from the race, Bartcop followed Clark in endorsing John Kerry.
He is an outspoken critic of the American media and addresses the perception of liberal bias in a page long diatribe entitled The Myth of the Liberal Media. Many issues feature quotes from journalists that are fawning over government policy. Bartcop often calls these journalists whores, a perception he claims has been reinforced by revelations about commentator Armstrong Williams and Jeff Gannon. In an attempt at humor, pictures of the faces of prominent journalists are superimposed on top of bodies of women that bear the stereotypical presentation of a prostitute.
Bartcop has been known to take controversial stances on some issues; his advocated solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is for all Jews to leave Israel and take up residence in the United States (specifically Oklahoma), and lambasts Zionists for putting a higher priority on their sacred sand than the lives of their children. This view which has earned him a great deal of hate mail from liberal Jewish readers of his site, but Bartcop notes that he also opposes Palestinian suicide bombers and has spoken out against anti-Semitism. Also, he tends to be extremely critical of religion in general (especially those he deems the religiously insane ), believing devout followers of any creed to be merely superstitious, and uses the saying Invisible Cloud Being as a sarcastic way of poking fun at people who believe in God.
Bartcop, unlike many leftists online, is vocal in his support of the U.S. military, and has had many heated expletive-laced debates with readers whom he views as insulting the troops. He has said that Bush betrayed the troops and the country by ordering the invasion of Iraq for what he perceives as the wrong reasons, and he keeps a running tally of those soldiers killed in the war. Previously a supporter of the political cartoons of Ted Rall (Bartcop had referred to Rall as my good friend Ted Rall in the past), he broke all connection and publicly denounced Rall in May 2004 after Rall published a cartoon about Pat Tillman. Bartcop dedicated an entire issue of his magazine to Rall s cartoon, publishing his views and the views of many readers who sent in e-mail on the subject. Bartcop viewed the cartoon as an insult to a brave soldier, and he was upset that Rall did not distinguish between the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, which Bartcop considers a worthy cause, and the War in Iraq, which he does not. Nonetheless, Bartcop frequently includes Rall s comics in his material.
Bartcop s non-political obsessions include Chinaco Anejo Tequila, poker, bixby corn, and Shirley Manson.
