Belkin

Belkin Corporation is an United States corporation that manufactures computer hardware and which specializes in connectivity devices. Belkin sells primarily in the consumer and home user market, but they also make switches, hubs (USB and computer network), cables, UPS power supplies, and other peripherals. The company began in 1983 in Hawthorne, California, and it has twice made the Inc. Magazine list of 500 fastest-growing privately held companies in the United States.

At present, Belkin is headquartered in Compton, California. It is the largest and most well-known employer in that city.

As of 2005, Belkin has introduced the Nostromo SpeedPad n52 which is a hybrid keyboard/joypad peripheral.

= Belkin Router Hijacking Incident =

In 2003 Belkin released a home use 802.11 Router which would occasionally replace user s HTTP requests with an advertisement page for Belkin products such as Internet filtering software. This misfeature was later determined to be a deliberate addition to the router s firmware by Belkin to better advertise their other products, and Belkin received much criticism for this. The initial response on Usenet from Belkin s marketing manager was less than stellar (and was eventually pulled), but eventually Belkin released a firmware upgrade that removed this feature from the router.
