The program relies upon existing iApps, notably iPhoto and ITunes, to manage the users content as far as the photo and audio portion of the Centerstage software is concerned. The user will thus be able to easily browse the photo and music collections and playlists stored, managed, and categorized on other computers and storage devices, tasks best not suited to be performed by use of a remote clicker in the living room.
Because Apple Computer does not have an iApp suited for video files, as it does for music and photos, the developers of CenterStage have also started a companion project called BackStage, which serves to help users categorize and manage their video collection, no matter the media type, encoding or storage method. The program allows videos to be sorted by numerous criteria such as genre, actor, director, etc. It also allows playlist funtionality, so one can string his favorite TV series into a single playlist category.
