DVD Plus |
DVD Plus, known as DualDisc in the United States, is an optical disc storage technology that combines the technology of DVD and CD in one disc. A DVD and the CD layer are bonded together to provide a multi-format hybrid disc.
DVD Plus is currently available in three formats:
1) CD / DVD 2) CD / DVD Audio© 3) DVD / ROM
It will eventually be possible to produce the DVD Plus with upcoming formats, such as HD-DVD. All DVD Plus formats can be played both on conventional CD players, on DVD players and on the computer (the format is compatible with approximately 99% of the players on the market).
There has been some controversy [http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5626691/ (See MSNBC article)] surrounding the DVD Plus format as of late, as United States record labels have attempted to roll out its DualDisc format with a specification that the creators of DVD Plus claim is in violation of its essential patents.
In December 2004, Sony signed a global License agreement [http://www.dvdplusint.com/news.php]with DVD Plus International, the makers of DVD Plus.
