Sir David Hatch attended the University of Cambridge, where he was also a member of the prestigious Cambridge Footlights Club. He was a member of the cast of the 1963 Footlights revue A Clump of Plinths , which was so successful during its run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival that the revue transferred to the West End theatre of London under the title of Cambridge Circus (comedy) , and, later, taken on tour to both New Zealand and Broadway theatre. Other cast members of the Cambridge Circus revue included John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Bill Oddie, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Jonathan Lynn and Jo Kendall.
David Hatch was also a cast member of the successful BBC radio comedy series I m Sorry, I ll Read That Again (also known as ISIRTA) with many of the Cambridge Circus revue cast. The cast for the series, in addition to Hatch, included Cleese, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Bill Oddie, Graeme Garden, and Jo Kendall.
Following I m Sorry, I ll Read That Again , David Hatch went into production and management at the radio section of the British Broadcasting Corporation, where he was given many executive positions, including the important top position of Controller (BBC) in charge of the radio station BBC Radio 4.|
