Dodo (ISP) |
Dodo is a budget Australia internet service provider (ISP) offering both dial-up and Broadband internet to customers Australia wide. It is believed to have over 100,000 subscribers, making Dodo a medium sized player in the ISP market in Australia. Dodo is considered to be the cheapest ISP in Ausralia, although this price differential is reflected in the quality of the service from the ISP, in terms of both infrastructure and support.
Dodo resells ISP services from both AAPT and Comindico, much larger Australian ISPs with reseller arrangements in place. At one stage, Dodo was owned by the company KBS Group Pty Ltd, although it is unsure whether this is currently the case. Dodo does not operate any customer-facing network infrastructure itself (such as DSLAMs or Modem banks,) but rather relies on the economies of scale present in reselling others ports in order to make a moderate amount of cash from being a virtual ISP.
Dodo advertises quite heavily on television. Most ads feature young, good-looking women (an apparent attempt to market Internet services by using sex) co-starring with an animated bird that looks very little like a real dodo would have (see picture below). However it has also run an ad featuring former Australian basketball Andrew Gaze and Mark Bradtke.
