The term FTP server can mean one of two things: # a computer responsible for serving any kind of files, via the File Transfer Protocol to FTP clients which can also be web browsers; # a software program that implements the FTP protocol and is working as a daemon (computer software) serving any kind of files.

Connections to FTP servers are made using FTP clients or certain web browsers that function as FTP clients.
