File alteration Monitor is a Subsystem for Unix-like operating systems notify certain applications whether certain files have been modified.
For example a file manager application can detect if some file has been altered and update the icon or its filename respectively.
The system consists of two parts: *famd, the FAM Daemon, which provides notifications and listens for requests. It can be configured by /etc/fam.conf *libfam, the interface to the client|
