Freedroid RPG |
Freedroid RPG is an isometric projection computer role-playing game (RPG), the hero of which is Tux, the Linux mascot). The game is licensed under the GPL and is an extension of the Freedroid game engine. The game is known to compile and run on Microsoft Windows, FreeBSD and GNU/Linux.
The premise of the game is that the robots of this universe have revolted in an event called The Great Assault. Only a few droids running an alternative operating system have stayed loyal to the human race.
Gameplay is almost a complete clone of the Diablo model with an added minigame. The minigame is the hacker (computer security) sequence from Paradroid. Upon sucessful completion of the minigame, a hacked robot will fight on the side of the player.
The graphical style is a bit of a cross between the 3D cartoon style found in Jimmy Neutron and the look of the functioning vault locations in the Fallout (computer game).
The plot is driven by a series of goals, most of which involve killing robots in order to fetch an item for a non-player character.
The game is peppered with various jokes about Microsoft, RPG conventions and plugs for Free Software.
