Fresh FM

: Note: worldwide, there are at least five radio stations going by the name Fresh FM . This article refers to the station broadcasting out of Adelaide.

Fresh FM is a not-for-profit community radio station based in Adelaide, Australia. As of 2004, its broadcast frequency is 92.7 MHz. The station is designed for the young people of Adelaide, and its fundamental operating principle is to promote all genres and age categories of youth music and to expose new genres and forms of music that the youth of Adelaide enjoy. The station has a reputation for playing a lot of electronic dance music as well as hosting programs on various social issues.

= History =

Plans for Fresh FM were laid in 1997, when three young people heard a youth radio station in Melbourne and agreed that Adelaide could benefit from a similar broadcasting concept. They formed a non-profit association and charter, and assembled a team of volunteers, including members with experience in various broadcasting professions.

Fresh FM commenced broadcasting with an Australian Broadcasting Authority Temporary Community Broadcaster license on March 17 1998. Initially the station broadcast at 92.9 MHz in a frequency-sharing agreement with the Italy radio station Radio Televisione Italiana, before later moving to another frequency at 92.7 MHz. On August 22 2002, Fresh FM received a full-time broadcasting license from the ABA.

Fresh FM remains a not-for-profit radio station, supported by almost 5000 subscribers -- or listener-sponsors -- who voluntarily contribute funds to keep the station operational.
