Despite its foundation as a forum on vapid-related topics, Golden Forum, claimed that they had contributed to the high turnout, especially the younger generations, to participate at the Politics_of_Hong_Kong#The_July_1st_Protests.

The site has recently been embroiled in a dispute with a political party, the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong, over a video contributed by its members, accusing the party campaigners who were handling out flyers on the street of being rude and swearing at passer-bys. It posted an apology statement on its main page on May 18, 2005.

There is another public forum (a forum with more gentle minded members, and rules restricting foul language) popular amoung hardware DIY users in Hong Kong, HKEPC.
