Hurricane Katrina and technology

Hurricane Katrina illustrated both failures and successes in technology both before, during and after the disaster. There were Telecommunication problems among officials, victims and survivors. There were also new solutions to problems. Some of these solutions arose impromptu, by people acting on their own, sometimes far from the disaster.

On August 30, an open . At least 55 Web sites set up lists or databases of missing of round people or people looking for them, or other information related to the disaster.

A web crawler was set up at [http://news.yahoo.com/katrinahelp.com] to search many of these.

At least three Wikis were set up. *[http://katrinahelp.info/wiki/main.html Katrina Help Wiki] *[http://wiki.nola-intel.org/index.phptitle=Main_Page New Orleans, LA Post-Katrina Intelligence Dissemination (nola-intel)] *[http://www.thinknola.com/wiki/index.phptitle=Main_Page Think New Orleans]
