Learning Perl

Learning Perl , also known as the llama book , is a tutorial book for the Perl programming language, and is published by O Reilly Media. The fourth edition, by Randal L. Schwartz, Tom Phoenix and brian d foy, was published on July 22, 2005, and covers Perl version 5.8.

Unlike Programming Perl , this book is aimed to novice users. The publisher offers a free sample of Chapter Eleven [http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/learnperl4/chapter/ch11.pdf] as well as complete set of code examples presented in the book. [http://examples.oreilly.com/learnperl4/]

Randal L. Schwartz (the original sole author) selected the world of The Flintstones for the examples in this book, giving rise to the somewhat frequent use of Fred and Barney as metasyntactic variables, rather than the classic foo and bar .

In 2003, Schwartz published a follow-up to the Llama - Learning Perl Objects, References & Modules . It picks up where Learning Perl left off.
