Mobility Email

Mobility Email is a portable distribution of Mozilla Thunderbird that is maintained by Shane Martin Coughlan. It can be used on a desktop computer as a normal email application, or it can run directly from a USB key (like the iPod Shuffle) without needing to be installed on a computer.

Mobility Email is based on technology from PortableThunderbird with Enigmail/GPG by John Urbanek, which in turn is based on Portable Thunderbird by John T. Haller.

Mobility Email has more features than the standard Mozilla Thunderbird email client. It has several extensions pre-loaded to allow one to access your Hotmail, Yahoo! and Lycos email accounts, and to view his/her contacts easily. It also uses the Enigmail OpenPGP extension and GnuPG to provide OpenPGP signing and encryption.

= The specific software included in the distribution =

  • Mozilla Thunderbird 1.5beta2 by the Mozilla Team.
  • Enigmail 0.93.0 by the Enigmail Team.
  • GNU Privacy Guard (GnuPG) 1.4.2 (Win32) by GNU.
  • WebMail 0.7.0 by the WebMail Team
  • Hotmail 0.8.0 for WebMail by the Webmail Team.
  • Yahoo! 0.5.1 for WebMail by the Webmail Team.
  • MailDotCom 0.6.1 for Webmail by the WebMail Team.
  • Lycos 0.1.4 for Webmail by the WebMail Team.
  • Talkback 1.4.1 by the Mozilla Team.
  • Portable Thunderbird Launcher 1.1.0 by John T Haller et al (modified by John Urbanek).
  • = Licenses =

Mobility Email components are released under several different open-source licenses. Mozilla Thunderbird is released under the Mozilla Public License (MPL). Portable Thunderbird is released under the GNU General Public License. Enigmail OpenPGP is released under the MPL and GNU GPL. WebMail (and its add-ons) are released under the MPL. GnuPG is released under the GNU GPL.
