National Information Exchange Model

The National Information Exchange Model (NIEM) is an XML-based standard being adopted by U.S. federal agencies for the precise exchange of information.

NIEM is based on a precisly defined data dictionary that uses ISO-11179 standards.

The NIEM is an outgrowth of the U.S. Department of Justice s Global Justice XML Data Model (GJXDM) project but is now being expanded to include other federal agencies such as the Department of Health and the Department of Education.
