OSDL

Open Source Development Labs (OSDL) was founded in 2000 and has investment backing from Computer Associates, Fujitsu, Hitachi (company), Hewlett-Packard, International Business Machines, Intel, Nippon Electric Corporation and others. It is additionally supported by a large collection of Independent software vendors, end user companies, and educational institutions.

The OSDL is a non-profit corporation whose mission is: To be the recognized center-of-gravity for the Linux industry; a central body dedicated to accelerating the use of Linux for enterprise computing. The OSDL operates as an industry consortium, is directed by a steering committee made up of its investment backers, and has a significant staff of its own.

OSDL sponsors key industry projects, including industry initiatives to enhance Linux for use in corporate Data centre, in telecommunications networks, and on the desktop. It also provides hardware resources to the open source community, performs and reports on testing of open source software, and employs a number of kernel developers.

It has data centers in Beaverton, Oregon and Yokohama, Japan. Its employees include Linus Torvalds, Andrew Morton (computer programmer), Andrew Tridgell, and Bryce Harrington.
