Opennap NG is a free, non-commercial open source server software for Unix and Windows, serving the original Napster peer-to-peer filesharing, to be used with clients such as Lopster/WinLop, XNap, WinMX, AudioGnome, and others. It is the new generation of OpenNAP, after drscholl had ceased to develop any further. Many new features and bugfixes have been included.
The OpenNap NG project is currently hosted at SourceForge.
Many opennap servers can be found looking at GotNap.
=System requirements=
Central processing unit: A 500 MHz processor is strong enough to serve 1000 users without lag on one machine. For chat-only servers (with file-sharing disabled), a 100 MHz processor can serve up to 1000 users (this happens becouse processor speed is important when it comes to serve file searches and transfer requests for a large number of users).
of RAM, while on Windows systems 1000 files take 400 to 500 KB of RAM.
incoming and 4 KB/s outgoing traffic per 1000 users.
. If logging is enable, more space will be required depending on logging verbosity and server activity.
