Pardus (operating system)

Pardus is a GNU/Linux distribution which is developed in Turkey, as a product of the Uluda Project. It is named after the Panthera Pardus Tulliana.

Uluda Project sponsored by Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey aims to develop a national GNU/Linux operating system and plans on answering the expectations and basic desktop requirements of the Turkish people. From the official web page of the project:

Uluda Project and its product Pardus will form quantum leap in Turkey to make Linux become widespread. Uluda Project will do this by giving full and right Turkish support, leading to create a free software eco-system for projects and products. So we will have usage facilities, especially re-distribution and changing software, that are cited in licenses. By using Pardus and other Linux distributions, we will have software, data, knowledge and our technology by forming a road map for Pardus and determining priorities. Uluda is the one leaders for Linux s being protected at nation scales, so it is national (ulusal) .

Pardus Live CD is the first product of the Uluda Project. Latest stable version (1.1) of the Live CD was released on May 5, 2005 [http://www.uludag.org.tr/urunler/pardus_calisan_cd_1.1.html ]. It includes the Linux 2.6.10 kernel, office tools (word processor, spreadsheet editor, presentation tool, etc.), Internet tools (browser, e-mail, instant messaging, relay chat etc. clients), multimedia and graphics tools (video player, music player, etc.), games and lots of other applications.
