The purpose of Pspell (Portable Spell Checker Interface Library) was to provide a generic interface to the system spelling checker libraries. It was, and sometimes still is, used in computer programming such as C programming language, and is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License.

For example, the PHP extensions for using Pspell should no longer be used; instead a recent version of GNU Aspell with a recent version of PHP should be used.
