Radio Television of Serbia

Radio Television of Serbia ( Radio Televizija Srbije ) is official radio and television broadcaster of Serbia. Its abbreviation is RTS, and channels are named RTS 1, RTS 2 etc. Sometimes, the TLA PTC is used to refer to it due to the Cyrillic spelling (Радио-телевизија Србије). Formerly, it was the Radio Television of Belgrade .

=History=

1929 is considered to be the year of foundation of RTS. The formation of RTS was the result of the decision of republican executive council on 13.02.1958.

The first news announcer in 1929 was Jelena Biblija. She was reading the news over radio to rare owners of radios in that time.

After WWII, the government of new Yugoslavia in 1956. decided to give money for building TV network in country.

23 August of 1958 was the date of first broadcast. It was Dnevnik news programme. The first people to appear on the new TV station were Miloje Orlovi, Branislav Surutka, Olga Nadj, Olivera ivkovi and Vera Milovanovi.

From 1961 RTS had equipment for delay airing.

The first TV receivers were made in Yugoslavia by RR, Cajevac and RIZ.

In 1970 the whole of Serbia was covered with TV signal and number of receivers raised to over 1800000.

Every republic of former Yugoslavia had its own TV station which were named after capital cities (RTB,RTZ,RTNS...).

There were no private stations until the 1990s.

RTS station was bombed on 23.4 1999 during the NATO aggression of Yugoslavia, when sixteen people were killed.

This TV station was controlled by Slobodan Miloevi until 5.October 2000. when people got into the building and burned one part of it. After that RTS aired under the name Nova RTS (New RTS) for a few months as symbol that it will never be device of manipulation again.
