STW-9 |
STW-9 is a television station broadcasting in Perth, Western Australia, wholly owned by Sunraysia Television. It is a member of the Nine Network.
STW-9 commenced broadcasting on June 12, 1965. In the late 1980 s it became owned by Bond Media, owned by infamous businessman Alan Bond (businessman). When Bond purchased the Nine Network, STW joined the network.
STW-9 is one of only two independently-owned metro affiliates of the Nine Network; the other is NWS-9 Adelaide, owned by Southern Cross Broadcasting.
The station recently made an Australian first by running with two female newsreaders, Sonia Vinci and Dixie Marshall. Unlike Seven Perth, its news bulletins are not seen in regional Western Australia. Rumours persist of infighting between Presser and WIN Television, who operate a Nine and Ten affiliated station serving regional and remote Western Australia. As a result, WIN Western Australia is based out of NEW-10 s studios and rebroadcasts Ten s 5pm news bulletin instead of STW-9 s 6pm bulletin.
The callsign STW stands for Swan Television, Western Australia. A similar callsign is HSV-7 in Melbourne, Victoria (Australia) - Herald Sun, Victoria|
