Shiira

Shiira is a web browser for the Mac OS X operating system. According to its website, the goal of Shiira is to create a browser that is better and more useful than Safari (web browser) . Shiira uses WebKit for rendering (computer graphics) and scripting.

Shiira is open source, and its source code is released under the BSD license. The project is led by mkino.

=Features=

Since the browser is being developed with Safari in mind, the main characteristics of the two browsers are similar. However Shiira has enhanced many of its features, including customizing the search field in the toolbar on which search engines (or online dictionaries) to use, and very flexible tab-browsing (like changing the order of the tabs via dragging). One of the eye-catching features might be its abundant appearance options, such as switching between Aqua (GUI) or Metal styles, options of changing tab appearance, add-on icon sets, etc.

Another distinguishing feature is Tab Exposé , which acts like the Exposé (Mac OS X) feature of Mac OS X, but for the open tabs.

=Wikipedia=

To add Wikipedia searching to the Shiira search box, which is on the toolbar by default, open the Search engines window from the Window menu, create a new entry, name it Wikipedia and add:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Searchsearch=%@&go=Go

to the template field. Then enable the new engine template by ticking its box.
