Sigil began growing once they reached their publishing deal with Microsoft in April 2002 and has attracted many developers who previously worked on the EverQuest series of games alongside McQuaid and Butler for Sony Online Entertainment/Verant. For example, artist Keith Parkinson, who had done the cover art for EQ and most of its expansions, joined Sigil in April 2002. Also around that time is when design work began on Vanguard .
