WYSIWYM

WYSIWYM (What You See Is What You Mean) is the paradigm created for LyX. It means that the things displayed on a computer screen should accurately display the information that is trying to be conveyed rather that the actual formatting .

The term WYSIWYM is also used for [http://www.xml-dev.com/blog/#19 XML editors] that do not display the formatting of the XML Data. Since XML does not define the actual formatting of the XML content, these editors are very useful in visually creating the data.

WYSIWYM purposely sounds like WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get), because it is an intended replacement for that paradigm.
