Wayrttd

WAYRTTD is Usenet and chat abbreviation (acronym) for What are you Really trying to do .

The expression became common on technically-oriented internet chat rooms, as a response to esoteric questions. In particular, it was used when a question was far enough afield that it begged the responder to wonder what the questioner was up to. For example:

Jorg: Anyone know of a good example use of the term WAYRTTD

Miro: Maybe. WAYRTTD

Jorg: I m writing a wikipedia entry.

Scott. Oh, I bet you want a non-techy example, then.

Jorg: Indeed, I do.

Scott: OK, I got one: George: How do I repeal the estate tax William: I guess if you were president, it could be part of your platform... WAYRTTD George: I hope to be rich one day, and I want to keep it all when I die. Miro: Dude, you can t take it with you when you die, even if you repeal that tax. Jorg: If you want something that lasts, you ll have to do something like write a wikipedia entry.
