Xandros File Manager

Xandros File Manager (known popularly as XFM) is the advanced proprietary file management and web browsing tool (uses KHTML rendering engine) developed by Xandros Incorporated for use with its popular Xandros Linux operating system using the KDE libraries (and of course the commercial Qt toolkit) as a replacement to the default Konqueror file manager bundled with most KDE-based distributions. Unlike Konqeror it is designed with tight integration with the Linux system in mind and is written to use as many Linux-specific features as possible while maintaining the level of ease of use commonly associated with the Xandros Linux OS. Along with the expected features of a file manager such as to preview/view files, to browse directories and mounted CD/floppy devices, it boasts many features not commonly found in other file managers including:

  • Read/write accessability for Windows FAT, VFAT, and FAT32 formats and read-only for NTFS
  • Automatically access to CD-ROM, DVD, floppy, and removable devices
  • Ability to seamlessly share files on Windows and UNIX networks and FTP servers
  • Easy creation of archives (tar, zip, and more) of selected files with a single click
  • Drag-and-drop functionality to move files (including Windows/NFS files), for FTP transfer, and music/data CD creation
  • Ability to copy CDs and perform drag-and-drop backups
  • Easy conversion CD tracks to MP3, WAV or OGG (license required for MP3)
  • Support for recursively changing properties of folders (3.x and later)
  • Easy mounting of Windows shares
  • The ability to manage print jobs and queues.

    • Note: CD burning speed is limited to 4x in the Open Circulation Edition. Xandros Networks Premium Members or owners of Standard, Deluxe, or Business editions get full speed burning.
