Xbox Media Player, or XBMP for short, was the predecessor to Xbox Media Center, or XBMC. Based on the MPlayer core, it allowed owners of a modified Xbox to display pictures and movie files, as well as play music files from the hard drive, CDs, DVDs or Server Message Block shares. Due to copyright issues, XBMP is illeagal to distribute in its compiled form, but since XBMP is Open source, users are free to modify and compile the source code using their own methods.
