YaCy

YaCy is a search engine, which uses the peer-to-peer method.

There is no central Server, instead all participants are equal. It can be either run in Web crawler Mode, or as a local Proxy server which indexes pages as you visit them (of course pages containing private information like forms or https pages are not indexed).

The program is released under the GNU General Public Licence.

== Advantages ==

As there is no central Server, the results can not be censored, and the reliability is (at least theoretically) higher.

Because the engine is not owned by a company, there is no advertising or manipulated ranking.
